It may not technically be summer yet, but the first day of Spring Awakening brought that familiar feeling that can only be simply described as “Summer Time Chi” to Addams/Medill Park on Friday afternoon.
Thousands of fans of Trance, House, and EDM packed into the park for what would be nothing short of heavy bass spread across three days at the 6th annual Spring Awakening Music Festival.
If the song Panda by Desiigner was the most remixed track at last year’s Spring Awakening, this year had to be iSpy by KYLE. DJs such as Party Favor and others all added their own twist to the popular song.
Not only did Chicago’s own Louis The Child have the entire crowd vibing throughout their electric set, the duo also brought out fellow Chicagoan rapper Towkio to perform his 2016 single “Gang With Me”. Benny The Bull (Chicago Bulls Mascot) even made his presence known during the set, shooting out t-shirts from his t-shirt launcher and even crowd surfing while atop of a inflatable raft.
After selling out three nights in a row at the Concord Music Hall last November, fan favorite Mashmello returned to Chicago to an enormous hero’s welcome.
Many fans held up their Marshmello flags, while a ton of other fans were decked out in Marshmello helmets and “We Are All Marshmello” t-shirts to show their fandom and support for the mysterious artist. Marshmello set included everything from tradition EDM, pop, alternative, and Hip Hop that included Kendrick Lamar’s Humble.
One thing is for sure is that there is a lot to do and see, especially watching your favorite artists live across 6 stages. Good thing Spring Awakening is three days, because that’s the exact amount of time you will need to get the most out of the weekend.
