From Top to Bottom: The Best Moments of WrestleMania 33
The ultimate thrill ride that was the 33rd edition of WrestleMania has come and gone. Like last year, the Showcase of Immortals was trending all night across multiple social media platforms.
The night was filled with excitement and memorable moments from the top of the show to the end. New Champions were crowned, Legends returned, and a phenom officially retired.
These are the best moments of WWE’s WrestleMania 33.
- AJ Styles goes for “Coast to Coast”, but it’s reversed
Kicking off the night was the self-proclaimed “Face that runs the place” AJ Styles going one-on-one with the commissioner of SmackDown Live, Shane McMahon. Each competitor took turns laying it in on their opponent. At one point in the match, AJ attempted to give Shane some of his own medicine by delivering the coast to coast. As faith would have it, Shane McMahon would block AJ’s kick with thunderous shot from a trash can.
2. Charlotte performs a Corkscrew Moonsault
At this year’s WrestleMania, Charlotte decided to take it up a notch. The 4-time Women’s Champion took to the top turnbuckle to deliver a corkscrew moonsault to Bayley and Sasha Banks on the outside. At last year’s Mania, Charlotte would perform a standard moonsault.
3. Bayley drops a “Macho” elbow and retains the WWE Women’s Championship
After reversing Charlotte’s non-stop onslaught attacks, Bayley took to the top rope to deliver a Macho Man style elbow on Charlotte to retain her championship. This victory definitely certifies Bayley as a credible champion.
4. Newly WWE Hall of Famer, Kurt Angle, makes he’s return to WrestleMania
After 11 years away from the WWE, the Olympic gold medalist, Kurt Angle returned to take his place in the 2017 Hall of Fame Class. However, Angle wouldn’t be the only Attitude Era superstar to return.
5. Matt & Jeff Hardy return to WWE and Win 7th WWE Tag Team Title
WONDERFUL! Before the Triple Threat Tag-Team Ladder Match began, the hosts of WrestleMania, The New Day, took a moment to address the crowd and inform them that their would be a last minute addition to match, thus making it a Fatal 4 Way Tag-Team Ladder Match. Once that familiar Hardy Boyz music hit, the Citrus Bowl in Orlando erupted as both Matt and Jeff Hardy made their way to the ring. Not only did the Hardys make a grand return, they were also able to capture the Raw Tag-Team titles, making them 7-time champs. Look for more DELETIONS of tag-teams to come rather soon.
6. Guest ring announcer Al Roker gets booed
It just wasn’t Al’s night. The WrestleMaina crowd booed every time Al Roker’s face would appear on the screen as he announced the competitors who were involved in the mixed tag-team match.
7. John Cena proposes to Nikki Bella
After defeating Miz and Maryse in quick fashion, the 16-time WWE Champion took to one knee to ask for Nikki Bella’s hand in marriage.
8. Triple H’s motorcycle/police escort entrance
One thing you can count on at WrestleMania is that Triple H will have a unique entrance. This year was no different. The Game (with Stephanie McMahon) would ride down to the ring on a three-wheeled motorcycle, led by a huge police escort.
9. Seth Rollins defeats Triple H with his own finish move
Many thought Seth Rollins would breakout a new finisher in his match with Triple H, but Rollins would finish off the King of Kings with his own move, the Pedigree. The Kingslayer stood tall after his huge victory.
10. Bray Wyatt plays mind games with Randy Orton
During the WWE Championship match, the Eater of Worlds, Bray Wyatt played mind games with his opponent Randy Orton by having haunting images of worms, maggots and crickets display on the ring mat.
11. Randy Orton becomes a 13-time WWE Champion
Orton was able to overcome the mind tricks of Wyatt and become the WWE Champon for the 13th time.
12. Brock wins WWE Universal Championship after 10 German suplexes and 1 F-5 to conquer Goldberg
This match was hard-hitting from the get-go. Spears and German suplexes were being handed out left and right. Goldberg would get a chance to hit his Jackhammer, but this time around the Beast would be able to kick out at 2. After dropping Goldberg with 10 German suplexes, Brock Lesnar hoisted Goldberg on his shoulders and delivered an F-5. This would be the final blow to put Goldberg down. Lesnar finally defeats Goldberg and wins his 1st WWE Universal Championship.
13. Naomi becomes 2-time SmackDown LIVE Women’s Champion
After giving up her title a few weeks back due to injury, Naomi returned stronger than ever and captured her 2nd SmackDown Live Women’s Championship at WrestleMania.
14. Roman Reigns defeats The Undertaker at WrestleMania
The Big Dog came to WrestleMania with one mission in mind and that was to claim himself the new ruler of “the yard”. After a grueling matchup, in the end, it took three spears to finally pin the Deadman 1-2-3. Of course, most of the WrestleMania audience was upset with the outcome. Jim Ross called this Roman’s “most important victory” of his career.
15. The Undertaker symbolically retires
WrestleMania 33 will mark the official end of in-ring action for the Undertaker. After the 3-count, the Deadman would lay on the mat for minutes. Once on his feet, he received a standing ovation from the crowd. Replays were then shown from the match. When the camera returned to the live feed, Undertaker was donned in his entrance gear. Piece by Piece, the Phenom would place his gloves, jacket, and hat in the center of the ring.
Before making his way up the ramp, Undertaker took the time to acknowledge his wife, former Divas Champion, Michelle McCool at ringside. As he made his way up the ramp, Undertaker gave one last salute to the WrestleMania crowd, as fans chanted “Thank You Taker”. With that, the man who has the best record at WrestleMania, 23-2, descended down into the entrance way as the lights in the Citrus Bowl faded to black.
