Recap & Photos | Lollapalooza 2015 – Day 1

Day 1 of Lollapalooza was a huge success! A full review of Lollapalooza will be up this upcoming week.

Before that review is posted, I wanted to let my audience know something that I saw for the first time ever yesterday. I was fortunate enough to get a great spot at the Samsung Galaxy Main Stage (The same stage Paul McCartney tore down on Friday); I’m talking about 4th row. Mostly all the festival goers around me were awesome and were ready to listen to some awesome live music. Noticed I said “mostly” in the last sentence, reason being there were about a group of five families scattered throughout the first few rows of the stage. I’m not talking about standing up together as a family, but setting a blanket on the ground claiming their spot. Doesn’t sound too bad right? Oh just wait until you read this.

Those five families scattered around the first few rows were not only claiming their spot, but they also refused to stand to watch other bands. I for one didn’t understand this – were they here just for Paul McCartney? I received my answer shortly after pondering that question. Upon hearing a man ask one of the families why they are sitting and not enjoying the Glass Animals (which were great by the way), their reply was “we’re only here for Paul”.

This created a lot of mayhem among the standing Lolla crowd and the sitting families. Some people couldn’t get pass, others tripped over the sitting families. These families would not budge. I left the Samsung Galaxy Stage after the Glass Animals set, which was at 3:00pm. Paul McCartney didn’t take the stage until 7:45! I have to wonder – did those families keep their spot, or did the standing crowd force them to move?
